Die Gehälter in vielen Dienstleistungsgewerben in den USA sind sehr niedrig. Das Trinkgeld, oder “Tip” macht einen Großteil des Einkommens der Kellner, Zimmermädchen, Taxifahrer u.s.w. aus. Dies ist zwar anders als zu Hause, aber läuft im Endeffekt fast aufs Gleiche hinaus.
In Europa findet man oft den kleingedruckten Zusatz: “Service eingeschlossen” auf der Rechnung, und den zahlt man in den Staaten eben nicht direkt mit der Rechnung, sondern durch ein individuelles Trinkgeld.
Wer erhält üblicherweise ein Trinkgeld?
Fangen wir am Flughafen an. Kofferträger erhalten $2 Dollar pro Gepäckstück. Sollten Sie ein Elektrofahrzeug benötigen, so sind 2-3 Dollar pro Person üblich.
Taxi- und Limousinenfahrer freuen sich über 15-20% der Fahrtkosten; Hotel-Shuttle-Fahrer erwarten in aller Regel kein Trinkgeld.
In Hotels steht der Doorman als erster auf der Liste, der für die Hilfe beim Ausladen des Gepäcks $1 erhält ($2 wenn der Koffer sehr schwer ist). Ein separater Page (falls vorhanden) erhält für den Weg von der Tür über den Empfang, bis zu Ihrem Zimmer den gleichen Betrag. Der freundliche Helfer der Ihr Fahrzeug parkt bekommt in der Regel 2 Dollar. Falls Sie einige Tage im Hotel wohnen, lassen Sie dem Zimmermädchen je nach Länge des Aufenthaltes 3-5 Dollar pro Nacht im Zimmer liegen, bei Luxushotels eher 6-10 Dollar. Zimmerservice-Mitarbeiter erhalten 15-20% falls der Betrag nicht schon mit auf der Rechnung steht. Der Concierge erwartet kein Trinkgeld für Tipps und Ratschläge, bekommt aber in aller Regel $3-5 für Reservierungen in Restaurants, $20 für die Buchung von Exkursionen, $25 für die Beschaffung von Konzert- und Theaterticket, an die schwer heranzukommen ist.
Mitarbeiter für das Pool erhalten 2-5 Dollar für den geleisteten Service, wie z.B. Liegestühle oder Handtücher bringen.
In Restaurants erhält die Bedienung 15-20% des Rechnungsbetrags, wobei die Steuer (”Tax”) nicht mitberechnet wird. Der Chefkellner erhält in Luxus-Restaurants noch einmal 5% extra. Barkeeper erhalten üblicherweise $1 für ein Bier, $2 für ein Mixgetränk, Reinigungskräfte $1.
Es gibt auch Angestellte, die kein Trinkgeld erwarten. Zu diesen gehören Personal in Restaurants mit Selbstbedienung, Hilfspersonal in Restaurants, Ladenangestellte, Büffetbedienung, Host(-essen) sowie Umkleidepersonal in Sportclubs.
Ja, die Liste der Trinkgeldempfänger ist lang aber dafür können Sie in aller Regel auch mit einem sehr freundlichen und guten Service rechnen. Falls Sie mal nicht mit dem Service zufrieden sind, scheuen Sie sich nicht, den Manager darauf hinzuweisen. In aller Regel wird man Ihnen dann sehr entgegenkommen.
